Tony Book, Manchester City title winner and ‘club legend’, dies aged 90 | Manchester City


The former Manchester City captain and manager Tony Book has died at the age of 90. Book, whose honours as a City player included a First Division title in 1968 and an FA Cup a year later, also played for clubs including Plymouth.

City said in a statement: “It is with huge sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of former Manchester City captain and manager Tony Book, aged 90. A true club legend in every sense of the word, Tony made 315 appearances for City in total between 1966 and 1974, scoring five goals.”

Book also won a League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup in his days as a defender at City and secured the League Cup as the manager in 1976.
