Robert de Niro is being honored in a big way.
The 81-year-old Taxi Driver actor will receive the Honorary Palme d’Or at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and it will take place during the opening ceremony on May 13.
One day later, Robert will take part in a masterclass on the stage of the Debussy Theater, via Variety.

“I have such close feelings for Festival de Cannes…,” he said of being awarded the lifetime achievement tribute at the festival.
“Especially now when there’s so much in the world pulling us apart, Cannes brings us together — storytellers, filmmakers, fans, and friends. It’s like coming home.”
Robert previously presided over the jury at the film festival in 2011.
Juliette Binoche will be jury president of this year’s festival, marking the second time in Cannes history that the jury will headed by a woman for two consecutive years.
