The DC Studios co-chief revealed what the Aquaman actor said to him via text following the news in 2022 that he would be heading up the superhero division of the company.

When it was announced in the fall of that year that James and Peter Safran would co-chair DC Studios, Jason quickly sent a text message in response.

The text was simple: “F–king Lobo.”

“Dude, I’ve said you should be Lobo for years. No lie,” James wrote back to the actor at the time.

“On the anniversary of Lobo, I can’t help but think of a text I received from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced Peter & I were the heads of DC Studios — the day Jason & I first discussed him joining the DCU as Lobo. I’ve loved watching Jason bring him to life & can’t wait to share that with all of you,” James said on X, sharing the text message screenshot.

Jason is playing Lobo in Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, which is now in production.

The casting was officially announced last December.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,” Jason said in a Fandango interview previously. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f–k yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26, 2026. Find out who else is confirmed for the movie!
