Could Elon Musk make an upcoming appearance on The Daily Show following Jon Stewart’s criticism of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by the billionaire?
Potentially. Musk responded to a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday by the account @FarzadMedia, titled “Elon Musk Should Go On Jon Stewart’s Daily Show.” At the beginning of the 11-minute video, the user says, “If Elon Musk actually went on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show and talked about DOGE for an hour, Jon Stewart and Elon Musk, the amount of headway and the amount of progress we would get as a country to actually get a lot of those things codified and actually propagate through the entirety of the United States, not just at a federal level, not just at the executive branch but through Congress, through all the local governments, I think it would go a really, really long way.”
In response, Musk wrote, “I will do it if the show airs unedited.”
The Daily Show seemed intrigued by the Tesla CEO’s offer, writing on X on Wednesday, “@elonmusk we’d be delighted!”
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to The Daily Show to see if official plans are in the works for Musk to make a guest appearance.
The billionaire’s offer comes days after Stewart went on a lively rant about DOGE on Monday’s episode of The Daily Show. During the host’s monologue, he mocked the unofficial government agency, which continues to controversially slash agencies from the U.S. federal government as part of Trump’s efforts to radically cut spending and reduce jobs and select programs. However, Stewart had his own suggestions on how to cut government spending.
“How about we just take the $3 billion in subsidies we give to oil and gas companies that already turned billions in profits?” he said as the audience cheered. “How about we just close down the carried interest loophole on hedge funds that’s worth $1.3 billion a year? Oh, how about we stop the $2 trillion we’ve given to defense contractors to build a fighter jet that blows, when everybody knows the next war is going to be fought with drones and … blockchain, whatever that is, holy shit!”
Stewart later condemned the pharmaceutical industry, specifically slamming the Biden administration’s celebrations for lowering the costs of 10 drugs. It was at that passionate moment in his monologue when the host cut his hand after smashing down his mug.
