Harry Kane wins record-equalling 125th England cap, drawing level with Peter Shilton | Harry Kane

Harry Kane made a record-equalling 125th appearance for England on Tuesday night against Czechia at Wembley, drawing level with Peter Shilton.

Kane, who made his debut in March 2015, was selected to start his fourth international game in 13 days. It draws the striker level with Shilton as the most-capped England men’s player.

Seven women have made more England appearances, with the list topped by Fara Williams, who played 172 times. Kane has scored an England record 89 goals, including four in this window. Before kick-off, Kane said: “It’s always special [walking out at Wembley] and the excitement of what’s to come. It’s a special night but we’ve got to focus on the job and hopefully finish off with a win.”

Shilton, the former goalkeeper, made his appearances from 1970 to 1990, his caps reduced by a period when he and Ray Clemence were rotated. Clemence won 61 caps from 1972 to 1983.

Shilton, who played for England from 1970 to 1990, congratulated Kane in a video message on social media — and said the former Tottenham striker could set an appearance record that “might never be beaten.”

“Because you’re still going strong, Harry,” the 77-year-old Shilton said. “You’re still playing well and scoring goals. And I know how much dedication and hard work you actually put into achieving this.”

Kane will hope to move ahead of Shilton when England play at home to Croatia in their next game, on 12 November.
