What is a Brooch?
A brooch is a decorative item, usually made of metal with gemstones, that’s meant to be fastened onto tops, jackets, blazers, pants, and more. Other than adding a touch of sophistication or a pop of color to traditionally tailored outfits, brooches also serve as a practical styling tool to tie fabric together.
Brooches date back as far as the Bronze Age. In ancient Europe, they still served as clothing fasteners and decoration, as well as indicators of social status and class. Of course, these brooches were simple and made of metal. The earliest era of modern jewelry was the Renaissance, when brooches became elaborate and opulent with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
