For Underwood, returning to Idol as a judge meant getting the opportunity to mentor those following in her very same footsteps.
“Sometimes I get in trouble from people like, ‘How dare she say that it wasn’t perfect?’” she said on SiriusXM’s The Highway last year in response to criticism of her tough love. “And I’m like, I just want everybody to learn and that’s part of it. And nobody wants to just hear that they’re amazing all the time.”
Still, the 43-year-old’s feedback comes from a place of love.
“We just want everybody to be able to grow and get better,” Underwood—who shares kids Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7, with husband Mike Fisher—added, “and be the most awesome version of themselves that they could be.”
