“Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire” has been renewed for Season 4, titled “Queen of the Damned.” The renewal was announced at San Diego Comic Con and comes ahead of the Season 3 finale on Sunday for “The Vampire Lestat.”
Series executive producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch and stars Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian and Sheila Atim were on stage at Comic Con to discuss “The Vampire Lestat” and announced the renewal. The new season is based on Rice’s third novel, “Queen of the Damned.” Moscovitch will serve as showrunner and executive produce along with Johnson and Rolin Jones.
“In ‘The Vampire Lestat,’ Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise,” said Dan McDermott, Chief Content Officer of AMC Global Media and President of AMC Studios, in a statement announcing the renewal. “We can’t wait to continue the journey with ‘Queen of the Damned,’ one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.”
“The Vampire Lestat” is technically the third season of the “Interview With the Vampire” series, but was rebranded to signify it would be adapting Rice’s second novel of the same name. Aspiring rock star Lestat (Sam Reid) is the focus of the third season, in which he gives journalist Daniel Molloy an interview for his film. Among his vulnerable confessions include a detailed recollection of his first love, Nicolas de Lenfent (Joseph Potter), who became a vampire with Lestat.
“Interview With a Vampire” first premiered in 2022, marking the second adaptation of Rice’s 1976 novel. The Tom-Cruise-led film was the first to bring the story to life in 1994.
To accompany Lestat’s journey to become a rock star, the series produced 20 songs sung by Reid, including “Your Biggest Fan,” “All Fall Down” and a cover of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself.”
