Matt Damon has revealed the wild pitch from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
Damon, who is set to star in directors’ new sci-fi film revealed the details during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” radio show. Damon said, “The way they pitched it to me was: if ‘The Breakfast Club’ meets ‘Inception’ meets an anime film meets an episode of ‘The John Oliver Show’ that didn’t get aired. So, if you liked ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and all the wildness and all the heart, I think you’ll really like this one.” He added, “It’s a really special project.”
Sandra Oh, Charles Melton, and Michael Gandolfini, PinkPantheress, Sean Kaufman, Silvia Dionicio, Jackson Kelly, Kerrice Brooks, and Thalia Dudek are all set to star in the Universal film. The film’s release date was moved from June 12, 2027 to Nov. 19 of the same year.
This film is the first from the Daniels since “Everything Everywhere All at Once” became a critical and commercial smash, earning more than $100 million at the box office and scoring seven Oscars including best picture. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” starred Michelle Yeoh as a struggling laundromat owner who, while being audited by the IRS, discovers she has to connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent cataclysmic destruction. Daniels, as the duo refers to themselves, made their feature directorial debut with 2016’s “Swiss Army Man,” a fantasy comedy starring Paul Dano alongside Daniel Radcliffe as a flatulent corpse. They rose to prominence by directing the viral music video for Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What.”
Production expected to begin in Los Angeles later this year.
Damon also mentioned that director and writer Edward Berger has sent him the first act of the Jason Bourne movie, which has been in the works since 2023. Damon said, “It looks really good, and I’m very hopeful that it will happen.” However, Damon added both he and Berger agreed it needed to match the caliber of the first three films in the franchise. He added, “If we really feel like we’ve got a shot at doing something great, I’m all in. I love that character. It’s been an incredible part of my life. I’d love to do it again.”
