Tyson Fury claimed a seventh-round TKO over Mariusz Wach at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Thailand on Friday as the British boxer took a step closer to his blockbuster bout against Anthony Joshua.
After Fury had dominated over the opening six rounds, Wach was seen signalling to his corner to wave the fight, before the officials ended the contest.
It means the Gypsy King is now well on track to face Anthony Joshua in their blockbuster all-British meeting later this year, with the latter now needing to defeat Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
Sky Sports Dev Sahni, who was at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya on Friday, said: “I have just interviewed Tyson and asked what would happen if AJ had been in the ring. He said the same thing would happen.
“Fury also confirmed he is not going to Jeddah for AJ’s fight tomorrow and wants to go and see his wife.”
Fury was in full control for the entirety of the fight and showcased his incredible boxing ability, switching from orthodox to southpaw on multiple occasions. He also showed that his hand speed is still as fast as ever, as the 38-year-old poked and jabbed at his opponent in the early rounds.
In the second round, the Brit struck three unanswered jabs, and looked to be using his full repertoire on Wach, but he too wasn’t going down without a fight, landing a big blow back on the former heavyweight champion.
Wach began to look tired as Fury continued to strike hard jabs on the 46-year-old, and many began to look to the Pole’s corner, wondering when they would call the fight after taking a barrage of uppercuts in the fifth round.
After taking more heavy blows in the seventh round from the Gypsy King, Wach’s legs appeared to wobble as he made his way back to the corner, before slumping in his stool, before the fight was ended.
