Suncatcher Productions has acquired the theatrical distribution rights to the family drama “If I Tell You,” directed by Tessa Blake.
Based on Lisa O’Donnell’s novel “Closed Doors,” the film follows a 12-year-old boy attempting to solve a mystery while navigating the impact of the secrets kept by the adults in his life.
The film, which is set for theatrical release in August, stars Carol Kane (“Annie Hall”), Etienne Kellici (“Ready or Not”), Allison Miller (“13 Reasons Why”), Bill Heck (“The Leftovers”), Christopher Jackson (“Hamilton”) and Carmela Zumbado (“You”). The ensemble cast is rounded out by Kennedi Butler, McKenzie Hays, Tiegen Fryberger and Zelalem Oestreich.
“In making ‘If I Tell You,’ I was driven to bring the beauty, suspense and emotional depth of Lisa O’Donnell’s novel ‘Closed Doors’ to the screen. Through the eyes of a boy on the precipice of adolescence, the film explores the fragile space between certainty and mystery, inviting us to confront the complicated truth — that justice is an illusion while our connection to each other endures,” Blake said in a statement.
The film, which was previously titled “Boundary Waters,” marks Blake’s feature directorial debut and was adapted to screen by Jennifer Manocherian and Blake. Ignite Studio’s Erin Mae Miller and Manocherian of Dog Lives Productions are producing.
“When I first read Lisa O’Donnell’s exquisite novel ‘Closed Doors,’ I immediately envisioned it as a film. While it explores themes that are often depicted on screen, what struck me was the story’s unique perspective through the eyes of a young boy trying to make sense of a complicated adult world,” Manocherian said. “Tessa and I were committed to preserving the novel’s emotional honesty, suspense and humanity, and I couldn’t be prouder of the extraordinary cast and crew who helped bring it to life. We’re thrilled to partner with Suncatcher Productions and look forward to sharing this film with audiences nationwide.”
