Sabrina Impacciatore to Star in Prime Video Thriller ‘Another Mother’

Sabrina Impacciatore (“The White Lotus” Season 2,” “The Paper”) and Alessandro Borghi (“The Eight Mountains,” “Supersex”) are set to co-star in Italian psychological thriller “Un’Altra Madre,” a new Prime Original to be directed by Francesco Carrozzini (“Supersex”).

“Un’Altra Madre” (“Another Mother”), which is currently shooting, was announced on Wednesday during Prime Video‘s Italy upfront presentation in Rome. The film appears to mark a departure from Impacciatore’s recent roles that are imbued in her goofy, exuberant persona.

In “Un’Altra Madre,” Impacciatore will play a therapist named Olga who runs an exclusive therapeutic community for people deeply marked by trauma in a remote countryside farmhouse. “By her side is her son Lorenzo (Francesco Gheghi), fragile and troubled, bound to her by a deeply complex and intimate relationship,” says the synopsis.

The arrival of an enigmatic patient named Tommaso (Borghi), “who seems to know long-buried and unspeakable secrets, disrupts the group’s fragile balance and profoundly undermines the bond between mother and son,” the synopsis adds. “As manipulation and guilt intensify, the line between healing and madness becomes increasingly blurred, leading to an inevitable reckoning.”

“Un’Altra Madre” is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in co-production with Italy’s Lucky Red and Genesis and will release on Prime Video worldwide.

“Over the past 10 years since launch — and seven years of original productions — Prime Video has become a key part of Italy’s entertainment landscape, with a lineup that grows bolder and more diverse each year,” Nicole Morganti, head of local originals for Southern Europe at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement to Variety. “Today, with the announcement of ‘Un’Altra Madre,’ starring Sabrina Impacciatore and Alessandro Borghi, we continue to expand our offering by championing bold, talent-driven projects, confirming our ambition to broaden our editorial proposition and tell powerful stories with top-tier creatives who aim for excellence, exactly as we do at Prime Video.”

Here are other notable scripted originals in the Prime Video Italy pipeline:

Masterplan” – Stanley Tucci stars alongside Simona Tabasco and Victor Belmondo in the previously announced “Masterplan,” which is produced by “Lupin” studio Gaumont and marks the first collaboration between Prime Video in France and Italy on an original film. “When a legendary thief sets his sights on the Mona Lisa, he recruits two young strangers to help him — Chiara, a sharp Italian cybercrime expert, and Jay, a swaggering French explosives specialist — before revealing they are long-lost siblings… and oh yes, by the way, he is their father,” says the provided synopsis. “Masterplan” will drop on Prime Video globally on Oct. 16.

“Blame It on Rome” – Michele Morrone (“365 Days”) and Gabrielle Union (“Bad Boys II”) star in this previously announced romantic comedy set in the Eternal City that will drop globally in 2027.

“Love Me Love Me 2” – The previously announced sequel to hit YA movie “Love Me Love Me,” produced by Leone Film Group with Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Webtoon Productions, will drop in 2027. A third installment in the franchise, titled “Love Me Love Me…More,” is also in the works.

“Bro” – An eight-episode Prime Original comedy series starring Italy-based Turkish megastar Can Yaman (“Sandokan”) and Italy’s Giovanni Nasta, “Bro” tells the story of two stepbrother lawyers, Riccardo and Nicola Ridolfi, who are complete opposites but are forced to work together. “‘Bro’ is a buddy comedy with romantic undertones that blends humor and emotion to tell the story of two very different brothers as they discover what it really means to be bros,” says the synopsis. The series will be directed by Riccardo Donna and Tobia Campana. “Bro” is being co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Lux Vide, a Fremantle company.

“Postcards from Italy” –This previously announced English-language Italian original series created by Lisa Riccardi and Damiano Bruè and directed by Jessica Yu, whose credits include “Only Murders in the Building,” will drop in 2027. It’s about a spoiled young New York heiress, played by Nicole Wallace — the Spanish star of Prime Video’s biggest international originals “Culpa Mia” and “Culpa Tuya” — who is sent to Sicily by her grandfather to work in the family real estate business.
