Ethan Galbraith: Swansea City midfielder poised to join Stoke City for eight-figure fee

Ethan Galbraith is poised to leave Swansea City for Stoke City after the Welsh club accepted an eight-figure bid for the Northern Ireland international midfielder.

Galbraith is due to undergo a medical in the Potteries on Tuesday after Swansea agreed to let the 25-year-old leave after only a year at the club.

Galbraith, who can also play at right-back, was a standout performer for Swansea having joined from Leyton Orient for £1.5m.

The Swans had been keen to hand Galbraith a new long-term deal this summer, but the former Manchester United youngster is instead poised to move on.

Swansea sources say it had been made clear that Galbraith was not prepared to sign a new contract.

Galbraith’s current Swansea deal runs until 2028, with the club having the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

But Swansea have opted to sanction Galbraith’s exit rather than forcing him to stay.

The news comes as a hefty blow to head coach Vitor Matos as his squad prepare to return for the start of pre-season training, given Galbraith’s contribution last season.

He will depart having scored four goals in 44 Swansea appearances, a number of which were in his less favoured position on the right flank of defence.
