Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a second season of “One Night in Idaho: The College Murders,” its 2025 docuseries about the horrific stabbings of Idaho college students carried out by Bryan Kohberger in 2022.
The new season features never-before-heard testimony from the law enforcement officers and investigators who apprehended Kohberger, as they attempt to answer the question: “Why did he do it?” The police featured in Season 2 of “One Night in Idaho” were previously unable to tell their stories due to a gag order on the case.
The three-episode Season 2 also features archival material including bodycam footage, police interviews and forensic evidence. It follows lead detectives Brett Payne and Darren Gilbertson as well as police chief James Fry as they offer emotional first-person perspectives. The docuseries will also check back in with those closest to the case, including friends and family members who shed context on where things stand more than a year after Kohberger’s guilty plea.
In November 2022, 28-year-old Kohberger broke into an off-campus house near the University of Idaho and fatally stabbed four students: Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle. He had no known ties to any of the victims, and it is still unclear why he committed the murders. In 2025, he entered a plea deal to avoid the death penalty.
“One Night in Idaho: The College Murders” hails from director Matthew Galkin, showrunner Katie A. King, Story Syndicate, Paramount Television Studios and James Patterson Entertainment. Executive producers include Galkin, Liz Garbus (who directed part of Season 1), King, Dan Cogan, Jon Bardin, Joshua Levine, Tommy Coriale, James Patterson, Bill Robinson and Patrick Santa.
