Hulu is developing a series version of the Humanoids graphic novel “RetroActive” with Bruce Miller onboard as an executive producer, Variety has learned exclusively.
“RetroActive” was written by Ibrahim Moustafa. Bobak Esfarjani is attached to write and executive produce the adaptation. Miller and Priscilla Porianda will executive produce via White Oak Pictures, with Fabrice Giger of Humanoids Studios and Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Ben Roberts of Alcon Television Group also executive producing. 20th Television and MGM Television are the studios.
“RetroActive” was originally released in 2022. The logline for the project states, “In the near future, the discovery of time travel is unknown to the public, but a new war rages between global powers as they exploit critical information from the past.”
Miller is a frequent collaborator with Hulu given the success of his series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Miller that show after six seasons in 2025. It received 77 Emmy nominations during its run, winning 15. Those wins include multiple acting wins, best writing for a drama series (Miller), and best drama series. Most recently, Miller created and launched the sequel series “The Testaments” on Hulu, with that show quickly earning a Season 2 renewal. Miller is also known for his work on shows like “ER,” “Eureka,” and “Alphas.”
Esfarjani most recently worked on the critically-acclaimed Apple TV series “Widow’s Bay.” His other recent credits include hit shows like “Alien: Earth” at FX and “WandaVision” at Disney+. He has also written for shows like the popular mystery thriller “Manifest” and “Kindred.”
Miller is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen. Esfarjani is repped by CAA, Echo Lake Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes.
