Protagonist Boards Adam Scott, Danielle Deadwyler Sci-Fi The Saviors

“The Saviors,” the provocative sci-fi thriller that recently bowed in SXSW, is heading to the Cannes Marché.

Protagonist Pictures has boarded international sales on the film, featuring an ensemble cast including Adam Scott, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Kate Berlant, Nazanin Boniadi, Ron Perlman and Greg Kinnear.

Directed by Kevin Hamedani from a script he co-wrote with Travis Betz, “The Saviors” follows Sean and Kim Harrison, a suburban couple on the brink of divorce, who rent their guest house to a quiet Middle Eastern brother and sister. What begins as a practical solution soon spirals into paranoia when bizarre occurrences — mysterious lights, missing animals and glimpses of unexplainable technology — coincide with the days leading up to a Presidential visit. As suspicion mounts, the couple is drawn back together emotionally, even as they uncover a dangerous secret that could have unimaginable consequences.

Matt Smith and Dan Gedman of Highway 10 are financing and producing the film. Additional producers include Adam Scott and Naomi Scott for Great Scott Productions; Nicholas Weinstock and Divya D’Souza for Invention Studios; and Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant for Amasia Entertainment. Deadwyler, Alyssa Roehrenbeck and Josh Sathre serve as executive producers. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance represent North American rights.

“The Saviors is exactly the kind of bold, thought-provoking thriller that sparks conversation at a festival like SXSW,” said Protagonist Pictures CEO Dave Bishop. “With a stellar ensemble led by Adam Scott and Danielle Deadwyler, the film keeps audiences questioning what they think they know, building tension with intelligence and precision. It’s resonant, bold filmmaking that entertains while tapping into the anxieties of the moment.”

Added the filmmakers: “With ‘The Saviors,’ director Kevin Hamedani has crafted a bold and urgent take on the classic paranoid thriller. Filled with provocative satire, the film will keep audiences guessing and on the edge of their seat up to the very end.”
