Shakira Crew Member Killed in Stage Accident Setting Up Brazil Concert

A construction worker who was helping set up for singer Shakira‘s upcoming Brazil concert died in a stage accident on Sunday, concert organizers announced in a statement.

Translated from Portuguese, the statement from the Todo Mundo No Rio concert said, “The event organizers confirm that an accident this Sunday afternoon (April 26th) tragically claimed the life of a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show. First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital. At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team, and the victim’s family.”

In February, Shakira was announced as the headliner for this year’s Todo Mundo No Rio in Brazil, a major free concert held in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, on May 2. This year marks the third annual concert after Madonna kicked it off in 2024 with a record-breaking 1.6 million people in attendance, the largest crowd of her career. Lady Gaga followed that up in 2025 with a massive performance to 2.5 million people, making it the biggest of her career and the largest concert for a solo female artist in history. Madonna concert generated more than $60 million for the local economy, and Lady Gaga’s performance poured $109 million to the city. Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Cavaliere made headlines earlier this year by banning Chappell Roan from ever performing at the concert after the singer had an awkward encounter with the stepdaughter of Brazilian soccer player Jorginho.
