“Fruit Ninja VR” will sweeten up the esports competition at the Global Gaming League‘s “SZN Zero Championship” this Friday when the video game takes center stage during the battle between Howie Mandel and NE-YO’s gaming teams.
Streaming this Friday, the finale of this season, “SZN Zero,” of the Global Gaming League (GGL) will feature the professional competitive debut of “Fruit Ninja VR.” The episode marks the culminating event of a season-long battle between Mandel’s “Howie Do It” squad and Ne-Yo’s “Gentlemen’s Gaming” for the championship title.
“Fruit Ninja VR” maker Halfbrick is the latest major publishing partner to team up with the GGL following the league’s teamups with Activision Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Capcom, EA, Tetris and Ubisoft for events. Previously, Halfbrick’s “Thrill of the Fight 2,” a VR boxing game, was featured at a GGL match between real-life boxing champion Chase DeMoor and podcast star and GGL team owner Gillie da Kid.
Made up of celebrity-owned teams with four-player rosters, each GGL competition sees two teams face off over four different games from different genres, including sports, fighting, racing, shooter and classic.
“The point of the Global Gaming League is that ‘Everybody Games,’” Global Gaming League founder and CEO Clinton Sparks said. “And almost everyone has played ‘Fruit Ninja.’ We had a fantastic match with Halfbrick’s VR boxing game and knew right away we wanted to continue to collaborate with this team and expand their IP further into the world of pro competitions.”
“We saw the raw, physical drama that ‘The Thrill of the Fight 2’ brought to the Global Gaming League match,” “Thrill of the Fight 2″ creative director Edward Vasquez said. “It’s more than a game; it’s a test of will and stamina that resonates with everyone who watches it. While ‘Thrill’ provides that high-stakes, cinematic intensity, ‘Fruit Ninja VR’ brings the legendary, fast-paced precision that defined a generation. It’s the perfect one-two punch for the SZN Zero Championship, showing that whether you’re in a title fight or the dojo, Halfbrick is the gold standard for competitive VR.”
