Alan Osmond, The Osmonds Singer, Dead at 76

The Osmonds are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Alan Osmond, the eldest member of the Utah-born 1970s barbershop quartet, died in the evening of April 20, his family confirmed. He was 76.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of my beloved brother, Alan Osmond,” Merrill Osmond, 72, wrote in a statement obtained by People. “I was grateful to be with him shortly before he passed and to share a final meaningful moment together. Alan was a gifted creator, a man of faith, and a deeply loving soul whose life blessed many.”

Born to George Osmond and Olive Osmond in 1949, Alan was formerly the eldest in the music group also comprised of brothers Merrill, Jay Osmond, 71 and Wayne Osmond, who died last year at 73.

Later, brothers Donny Osmond, 68, and Jimmy Osmond, 63, also joined the group as they evolved their sound. (The Osmond siblings also include Virl Osmond, 80, Tom Osmond, 78 and Marie Osmond, 68, though they did not perform in the family band.)
