Roku is continuing its push into gaming experiences with the launch of “Roku City Dash,” a retro-inspired game that users can play from within the platform’s screensaver.
The smart TV company — which as of last week boasts more than 100 million streaming households worldwide — describes the new feature as “an original game that takes you inside the beloved Roku City, past iconic buildings and unexpected surprises from outer space.” Users who play “Roku City Dash” can compete within their households for high scores.
Beginning Monday, “Roku City Dash” will be accessible to users through an interactive building in the Roku City screensaver, as well as through the Roku Home Screen.
“Roku City Dash” is the latest addition to a growing list of interactive experiences Roku has debuted to engage viewers on the platform beyond their streaming habits, including Roku Daily Trivia and a new quarterly “Roklue” quiz game, and “Live from Roku City,” which has seen the screensaver switch over to a dynamic themed page for events like Demi Lovato’s headline performance and to promote “Wicked: For Good.”
“Our users have a deep passion for all-things Roku City and starting today we are delivering a feature they’ve asked for over many years,” Roku Media head of content Lisa Holme said. “Roku City Dash invites our users to fly through Roku City, passing iconic monuments they know and love, plus special Easter eggs, as they vie for a high score by avoiding obstacles. The game is a fun way for us to celebrate our beloved town, build on our platform’s interactivity, and invite users to spend time with Roku in a new way.”
