“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” is bringing back original series cast member Jennifer Stone, Variety has learned exclusively.
Stone is set to guest star in the upcoming third and final season of the Disney series, which serves as the sequel to “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She will once again play Harper Finkle, who was the non-magical best friend of Alex Russo (Selena Gomez).
Stone is the latest original cast member to appear on the new show. David Henrie leads the new cast, while Gomez, Maria Canals Barrera, and David DeLuise have all made appearances. In addition, it was recently reported that Gregg Sulkin would appear in the final season as Mason Greyback.
This will mark Stone’s first credited onscreen role since 2019. She previously took a hiatus from acting to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing. While in school, she starred in, co-wrote, and produced the indie feature “The In-Between.” She returned to Los Angeles in 2019 to pursue acting once again, but went to work as a nurse amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stone played Harper across all 106 episodes and two films for “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Her other credits include the films “Secondhand Lions” and “Nothing Left to Fear.” She is repped by Sweeney Entertainment and publicist Laura Ackermann.
Aside from Henry and Gomez, the cast of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” includes Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, Max Matenko, Taylor Cora, and Mimi Gianopulos. The official logline for Season 3 states, “Billie (Brown), still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2, discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them.”
The final season of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” will consist of four episodes and is slated to air this summer on Disney+, Disney Channel, and Disney on-demand platforms. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers, along with executive producers Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez, and Henrie. “Wizards of Waverly Place” was created by Todd Greenwald.
