Comedian Cat Cohen‘s new one-woman show “Broad Strokes” will debut Off-Broadway over the summer.
The musical comedy is set to begin previews at downtown Manhattan’s Lucille Lortel Theatre on July 14 ahead of opening night on July 27. The eight-week engagement will end on Sept. 4. “Broad Strokes” heads to New York following a sold-out run at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The show centers around Cohen’s near-death experience of suffering a stroke at age 30 caused by a hole in her heart. Equal parts confessional comedy and musical cabaret, “Broad Strikes” is described as a “wildly funny, song-filled one-woman show about mortality, hypochondria and the undeniable thrill of being the main character.” It features music by Cohen and David Dabbon.
“I’m so excited for this chapter of ‘Broad Strokes’, ” said Cohen. “This show is my favorite thing I’ve ever created, so to bring it to my fave city with this dream team is an honor. I’m truly counting down the days until I get to stroll through my neighborhood for our first performance at the Lortel.”
“Broad Strokes” is directed in New York City by Alex Timbers (“Just In Time,” “Moulin Rouge,” “Oh, Hello”) and produced by Mike & Carlee Productions (“Oh, Mary,” “Josh Sharp: ta-da!”). The production also features design from Derek McLane (scenic), Jake DeGroot (lighting), Cody Spencer (sound) and Kelsey Randall (costume).
“I am thrilled to join Cat in bringing ‘Broad Strokes’ to NYC this summer,” Timbers said. “It’s a surprising, hilarious, and captivating show that I know New Yorkers will love. Cat Cohen is a singular voice in comedy, and I cannot wait for theater and comedy fans alike to fall in love with the incredible show that Cat has created.”
Cohen was recently in Joachim Trier’s film “Sentimental Value” and Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” remake with Glen Powell. On the small screen, she’s appeared on “Sirens” and Season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building.” Cohen has released two comedy specials: “The Twist…She’s Gorgeous on Netflix and “Come For Me” on Veeps.
