“I need them to be clean, so they don’t clog up my pores or make my skin have a bad reaction because we’re wearing obviously all the Nomex fireproof [suit]. We’re in the car for a long period of time. We’re sweating a bunch,” Cook told E!. “I definitely will break out more if that happens.”
It’s not just about self-care for Cook, though. For her, beauty is all about bravery. It’s the courage to allow herself to exist fully as her own person—regardless of what her male counterparts may say.
“It is okay to be feminine in this space. Seeing other female drivers really helped me embrace it more myself and not feel like I needed to hide it or feel guilty about it or feel like I was being a bit feminine, that that doesn’t mean that I’m not taking the racing just as seriously,” she said. “I just want to look nice and feel nice, and I just don’t need you to tell me about it or comment on it. I just want to exist in my space.”
