‘Saturday Night U.K.’ took aim at a number of public figures in this week’s faux news segment Weekend Update, with one particularly spicy joke invoking Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s death by suicide.
“It’s been revealed that meta billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is building a bunker under his compound in California,” said Weekend Update co-host Ania Magliano. “And I hope he uses that bunker in exactly the same way Hitler did.”
Hitler infamously shot himself in his bunker in 1945 as he realized Germany had lost World War II.
Other figures on the receiving end of Magliano and co-host Paddy Young’s artificial headlines were Donald Trump, Keir Starmer and BBC D.J. Scott Mills, who was fired last week in relation to a historic abuse allegation relating to a teenage boy. “In big media news, DJ Scott Mills was fired from his job at the BBC this week after police searched the Radio 2 presenter’s hard drive and found over 100 terabytes of decent music,” said Young.
Tiger Woods, who crashed his car while allegedly driving under the influence last week, was also invoked. “According to a police report at the scene of his car crash in Florida last week, Tiger Woods had two opioid pills in his pocket,” said Young. “Woods claimed he was only keeping them in his pocket because he’d run out of room in his bloodstream.”
The segment also included guests in the form of a faux “Love Island” contestant complaining about the latest season of the show replacing participants with “AI-generated fruit” and, inexplicably, Jack Shep as an influencer dormouse.
The third episode of “SNL U.K.” is hosted by Riz Ahmed with musical guest Kasabian. The first episode saw 226,000 viewers, losing 21,000 for its second episode.
