Peacock is in development on a drama series about dentist-turned-drug lord Larry Lavin. If ordered to series, Lavin will be played by Colin Jost with Alex Barnow serving as showrunner.
The currently untitled series is based on Season 1 of the Audacy true crime podcast “Wolves Among Us.” The official description for the project reads, “By day, Larry Lavin was a respected Ivy League dentist and family man – by night, the East Coast’s most elusive cocaine kingpin. This series is inspired by the shocking and absurd true story of the suburban dentist who built a drug empire behind the façade of the American dream.”
In addition to starring, Jost executive produces the Lavin project alongside Jeff Grosvenor from his No Notes Productions banner, which is under an overall deal at Universal Television. Barnow and Absecon Entertainment’s Rachel Kaplan are also executive producers, with Lavin, Matt Davis and Steve Seidel as co-executive producers.
Jost is best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live,” where he is a writer and “Weekend Update” anchor. He started at “SNL” during Season 31 in 2005. (His work on “SNL” will not be affected by the Lavin project.) Jost’s other credits include writing for the 2018 Golden Globes, hosting the 2018 Emmys and hosting Amazon Prime Video’s “Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” which premiered in 2024. Jost is repped by CAA and Yorn Levine Barnes.
Barnow began his career as a writer on Season 3 of “Family Guy” and later co-created of Matthew Perry’s 2011 ABC sitcom “Mr. Sunshine.” From 2013 to 2023, he was a writer and producer on all 10 seasons of ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” serving as showrunner on Seasons 7 and 8 in 2019 and 2020. He also co-wrote the 2019 Samuel L. Jackson-led film “Shaft.” On Starz upcoming series “Power: Origins,” Barnow is a consulting producer. He is repped by UTA, Amplified Entertainment and HJTH.
