Focus Features will release a filmed version of Broadway‘s “Six” on the big screen over the summer. It will land in domestic cinemas on Aug. 14.
“Six” imagines the wives of Henry VIII as a pop icons, and the show plays like a concert. This performance was recorded at London’s Vaudeville Theatre with the original West End Queens reprising their roles. Catherine of Aragon (Jarnéia Richard-Noel), Anne Boleyn (Millie O’Connell), Jane Seymour (Natalie Paris), Anna of Cleves (Alexia McIntosh), Katherine Howard (Aimie Atkinson), and Catherine Parr (Maiya Quansah-Breed) front and center of “Six,” which was written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss.
The film version of “Six” has already opened at the box office in the United Kingdom and Australia, grossing over $8.5 million combined. It’s a solid tally for a live musical event. The show was directed for film by Liz Clare and for the stage by Moss and Jamie Armitage. The film was produced by Kenny Wax, Wendy & Andy Barnes, George Stiles and Dione Orrom.
“Six” premiered on the West End in 2019 and launched on Broadway after the pandemic in 2021. At the time of the movie’s release, the Tony-winning Broadway production will have played more than 2,000 performances. “Six” has since been staged in 16 countries including Japan, China, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and Switzerland.
“Six” joins a slew of Broadway productions, like “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Hamilton,” “Come From Away” and “Waitress,” that have been preserved on film and distributed by companies such as Sony Pictures Classics, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Bleecker Street.
