“The Salt Path,” an acclaimed drama starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, has set a theatrical rollout for the U.S. and Canada via Rialto Distribution International.
The film is coming off a successful box office run in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, where it has grossed over $15 million. Anderson and Isaacs play a couple at rock bottom after losing their home and grappling with a devastating diagnosis. Out of options, they embark on an extraordinary 1,000-kilometre walk along England’s rugged Southwest Coast Path. What unfolds is “a profoundly moving journey of love, resilience and rediscovery and the enduring strength of human connection,” per a synopsis.
Rialto has set May 22 as a release date for the project, which marks the feature film debut of veteran theater director Marianne Elliot. The distribution shop recently released “Tinā,” which became the most successful New Zealand-made film in the U.S. since “Hunt for the Wilderpeople.”
“Working with Marianne on her first feature was a rare opportunity to translate an intimate, deeply felt story to the screen,” said producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley. “The film’s tenderness and depth make it a standout in today’s cinema landscape, and we’re thrilled that Rialto will be introducing it to US and Canadian audiences.”
“This is a film of quiet power,” added Kelly Rogers, CEO of Rialto. “It speaks to something deeply human – love, endurance and the idea that it’s never too late to begin again. We’re thrilled to share this remarkable screen work with viewers in the United States and Canada and believe it will leave a lasting impression.”
