Oscar Nominations Pushed to Jan. 19, Voting Extended 2 Days

The deadline for Oscar nomination voting has been extended two days due to the Southern California fires.

Voting for the nearly 10,000 Academy members opened Jan. 8 and was originally set to close on Jan. 12. Deadline is now Jan. 14.  The nominations announcement, originally scheduled to be announced on Jan. 17, has moved to Jan. 19. Conan O’Brien will host the 2025  Oscars  ceremony, which takes place on March 2.

The Academy sent an email to members Wednesday afternoon detailing the date changes from CEO Bill Kramer. “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California,” the email read, in part. “So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”

The voting extension comes as a slew of Los Angeles-area premieres and events have been canceled or postponed amid the horrific fires.

Amazon MGM Studios and Universal Studios were the first to scrap their planned Tuesday night premieres of “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man.” Meanwhile, Paramount and Max canceled their Wednesday “Better Man” and “The Pitt” premieres.

Wednesday morning’s live SAG Awards nominations with Joey King and Cooper Koch also pivoted to being unveiled in a press release.

The AFI Awards luncheon on Jan. 10 has been postponed as has the BAFTA Tea Party on Jan. 11. The Critics Choice Awards, which were scheduled for Jan. 12 in Santa Monica, has been pushed to Jan. 26.

“The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards ceremony has been postponed from January 12th to January 26th due to the catastrophic fires ravaging Southern California,” said a statement from CCA released Wednesday. “The rescheduled event will remain at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and will broadcast live on E! and around the world.  It will also be available on Peacock the next day.”

CCA CEO Joey Berlin said, “This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected.”
