Netflix First Look at Drama-Action Series ‘Man on Fire’


Netflix has released the first look at the upcoming action-drama series “Man on Fire,” set to premiere on April 30.

“Man on Fire” is based on A.J. Quinnell’s book series of the same name, and tells the story of John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). The logline reads, “Once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But, before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”

The seven-episode season also stars Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor.

Writer and showrunner Kyle Killen will executive produce, along with Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency Productions; Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Tracey Cook for Chernin Entertainment; Kyle Killen and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven; and  Stacy Perskie for RedRum. Steven Caple Jr., Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, and Abdul-Mateen II will also executive produce.

Steven Caple Jr. will direct the first two episodes and also serve as executive producer.

CASTING

Jeff Daniels has joined the cast of Season 5 of “The Morning Show,” Apple TV announced Monday.  Daniels will play the recurring guest role of Lukas, described as a self-made billionaire and founder of an investment firm. 

Daniels joins series regulars including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm on the Apple TV drama series. Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons will also appear in the upcoming season. 

“The Morning Show” is showrun and executive produced by Charlotte Stoudt, and directed and executive produced by Mimi Leder. The series is produced by the television studio Media Res, and executive produced by Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer through Media Res, along with Stoudt and Leder. Witherspoon executive produces alongside Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, while Aniston and Kristin Hahn executive produce through Echo Films. Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft also executive produce.

PROGRAMMING

AMC Networks has ordered an eight-episode Season 2 of its upcoming drama series “The Audacity.” News came in advance of the series’ premieres at SXSW in Austin. The first season, which also consists of eight episodes, will be released on AMC and AMC+ on April 12.

Set inside Silicon Valley, “The Audacity” takes on the “warped dreams, outsized egos, and ethical lapses of the self-styled inventors of the future. In a world of jaded billionaires, psychiatrist-gurus, bio-hacked tech bros, AI labs and disillusioned teens being optimized in elite private schools, an audacious data-mining CEO (Billy Magnussen) strives to turn insight and influence into profit and power.”

In addition to Magnussen, the cast includes Sarah Goldberg, Zach Galifianakis, Lucy Punch, Simon Helberg, Rob Corddry, Meaghan Rath, Paul Adelstein, Everett Blunck, Thailey Roberge and  Ava Marie Telek.

“The Audacity” is created, written and executive produced by Jonathan Glatzer (“Better Call Saul,” “Succession”) and executive produced by Gina Mingacci (“Killing Eve”). Lucy Forbes (“This Is Going To Hurt”) directed the first two episodes of the first season.

Allen Media Group’s free-streaming digital platform devoted to Historically Black Colleges and Universities sports and culture, HBCU GO, has partnered with UNCF, an education organization for underrepresented students, in a new deal to share cross-platform programming.

The partnership kicked off with video series “HBCU Voices: Executive Leaders Unfiltered.” Produced by video production and event management company 360 Media Management Group (360 MMG), the series was created by UNCF’s Institute for Capacity Building and centers on the innovations, transformations, and advancements taking place across HBCUs. Upcoming episodes include “Institutional Excellence – Women in Leadership,” “AI, Tech, and HBCUs,” “Driving Systemic Change” and “Revitalizing the Legacy.”

“UNCF is an historic and excellent organization,” said Byron Allen, Founder/Chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group, the parent company of HBCU GO. “The strategic alliance between HBCU GO and UNCF will continue to elevate and amplify the phenomenal leadership, innovation, and impact of our Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

EVENTS

Rise Literary is launching RiseLive, a new experiential storytelling and speaker series. RiseLive will debut on April 26 at the El Roblar Hotel in Ojai, California, where a roster of 10 speakers will take the stage for 10-minute talks. 

The series will include writers, creatives and academics delivering their first major keynote talk. Speakers include Eric Goode, Lynnette Ramirez, Krista Vernoff and Daniel Roselle. 

“We wanted to create a space where speakers can show up fully – intellectually, emotionally and creatively – without being boxed in by traditional format,” said Kristen McGuiness, founder and publisher of Rise Literary, in a statement. “RiseLive is about honoring the power of story as a lived, embodied experience, not just as a corporate think piece.”

RiseLive will also launch in Bedford, N.Y., on Oct. 26, and will expand in 2027 to Tulsa, Okla.; Byron Bay, Australia and Dublin, Ireland. RiseLive plans to host ten stages annually worldwide, with future locations slated to include Costa Rica, Vancouver, South Africa, Greece and Sri Lanka, beginning in 2028.

Apple TV has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming drama series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” starring Elle Fanning (who also executive produces) and featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman.

The eight-episode Apple Original series, produced by A24 and created by David E. Kelley, will premiere globally April 15 with its first three episodes, followed by weekly installments every Wednesday through May 20. The show is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe.

“Margo’s Got Money Troubles” centers on Margo (Fanning), a recent college dropout and aspiring writer navigating early motherhood while struggling to stay afloat financially. The character is the daughter of an ex-Hooters waitress played by Pfeiffer and a former professional wrestler portrayed by Nick Offerman. Facing a growing stack of bills and limited options, Margo searches for a way to build a life for herself and her newborn.

The ensemble cast also includes Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington.

Kelley serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Fanning, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward for Lewellen Pictures; Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films; and Matthew Tinker for David E. Kelley Productions. Pfeiffer, Thorpe, Eva Anderson and Boo Killebrew also executive produce.

Dearbhla Walsh directs the pilot and executive produces, with Kate Herron and Alice Seabright directing additional episodes.

The series marks the latest collaboration between Kelley and Apple TV+ following the legal drama “Presumed Innocent,” which is currently in production on its second season.
