Joe Alwyn to Star in ‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’ With Rachel Weisz

Joe Alwyn has lined up his next feature film role. The “Hamnet” and “The Brutalist” actor will star alongside Rachel Weisz and Matthew Macfadyen in Tomas Alfredson‘s new drama “Seance on a Wet Afternoon.”

The film, based on Mark McShane’s 1961 novel, is penned by “Adolescence” co-creator and Emmy winner Jack Thorne. “Seance on a Wet Afternoon” follows “Myra, a self-proclaimed medium who convinces her husband Billy to kidnap the son of a wealthy family so she can lead the police to the ‘missing’ child and legitimize her psychic abilities,” its synopsis reads. “When Myra’s true intentions come to light, however, Billy realizes her plan threatens to consume them both.” Principal photography is now underway in the U.K.

An Element Pictures and Astral Projection production, “Seance on a Wet Afternoon” is produced by Robyn Slovo; Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures (a Fremantle company); and Polly Stokes and Weisz for Astral Projection as part of its first-look and development deal with Fremantle. Film4 and Fremantle financed the film. Executive producers include Thorne, Macfadyen, Farhana Bhula and David Kimbangi for Film4. FilmNation Entertainment are handling international sales, with UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance handling domestic rights.

Creatives on “Seance on a Wet Afternoon” include cinematographer Marcell Rév (“Euphoria”), BAFTA-winning production designer Jacqueline Abrahams (“The Lobster”), costume designer Sarah Blenkinsop (“All of Us Strangers”), Oscar-nominated hair and make-up designer Daniel Phillips (“Victoria & Abdul”) and casting director Jina Jay (“The Night Manager”).

Alwyn is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA and Entertainment 360. Alfredson is repped by UTA. Weisz is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA, Linden Entertainment, Premier PR and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. Macfadyen is repped by Hamilton Hodell, UTA, Johnson Shapiro Stewett & Kole and Wolf Kasteler. Thorne is represented by UTA and Casarotto U.K.
