[This story contains MAJOR spoilers from Tell Me Lies season three, episode six, “I Don’t Cry When I’m Sad Anymore.”]
Bree, played by Cat Missal, was on an emotional roller coaster in the latest episode of Tell Me Lies.
Not only does Bree still have a confusing dynamic with boyfriend Evan (Branden Cook) in the college timeline of the Hulu hit’s third season, but this week explores more of her spark with Evan’s friend Wrigley (Spencer House) — the revelatory flashback coming after their secret love was revealed in the 2015 timeline in episode four.
“There’s a relatability between them. There’s something unspoken that exists beneath everything,” Missal tells The Hollywood Reporter of Bree and Wrigley’s undeniable attraction.
Bree, however, is still suffering from the season two fallout from her affair with professor Oliver (Tom Ellis), and she ends up going to his house to confront him. But Oliver isn’t there, and the visit results in a surprising heart-to-heart between Bree and Oliver’s wife, Marianne (Gabriella Pession). Bree reveals to Marianne that Oliver’s most recent student target, Amanda (Iris Apatow), is only 17 years old.
Below, Missal and Costa D’Angelo — who plays Alex, the love interest to Grace Van Patten’s Lucy — unpack Bree’s episode six chaos and tease the final two episodes of season three.

There’s a lot of focus on Bree this season, with multiple storylines centered on her. What has it been like to step into a bigger role this season?
CAT MISSAL Season two prepared me a little bit. Even though most of my storyline was with Oliver, I had more to do. So this season I was ready for more work and I was really excited. I’m just so grateful for it.
Bree hits a breaking point in this episode when she goes to Oliver’s house to confront him, and then opens up to Marianne. Why doesn’t Bree go to university administration about Oliver, especially when she learns Amanda is only 17?
MISSAL I really don’t know. Maybe she has a problem with authority. I don’t know. She likes the chaos.

Marianne told Bree to ultimately be with someone who loves her more. Do you think that’s the reason she ends up marrying Evan in the 2015 timeline?
MISSAL I think those words really ring true for her. And I think her decision was already being based upon security and what Evan provides for her, which is security, and that kind of gave her the push she needed, along with a few other things that happened.
Why are Bree and Wrigley able to connect so much, not only on an intimate level with their kiss this episode, but also on a vulnerability level?
MISSAL I think Wrigley’s dealing with a lot of grief, and Bree carries a grief of her own with the relationship with her mom, not having a relationship with her father, her upbringing and how she’s had to navigate and be her own support system for years. I think there’s a relatability between them. There’s something unspoken that just exists beneath everything.

What can you tease about the final two episodes of season three?
MISSAL I was about to say — so controversial. Actually no… have your beta blockers [within reach.]
COSTA D’ANGELO Yeah, it’s crazy. Just go for a walk. Take a few laps after it ends, get some sun. It’s insane. I think it’s going to blow up the internet. It’s crazy. So, enjoy.
